Meet Cosmo. He came into our lives on August 22nd, 2009. I woke up feeling rather depressed. It was a day shy of three months since the twins died and I was feeling pretty helpless about a lot of things. Stamps suggested we run some errands and stop by the animal shelter, since we'd talked about getting a cat. So, off we went.

We met Cosmo, played with him and decided to take him home since he met all the requirements we had previously established (kitten - so it would like Mikey, short black hair).

What? He's looking at the camera?

I like the mixture of white and black. All four paws have white fur, though each leg has a different ratio of white to black fur. So far, he seems to love laying in the sun - much like Mikey.

After he's settled in

Cosmo is a lot harder to take good pictures of than Mikey... but I got one!

From above, to show the coloring on his legs.

Here's a better picture of the coloring on his body, particularly his legs.

Cosmo's first Halloween -- and we discovered that he apparently likes the taste of pumpkin. The whole time we were carving, he was licking seeds or trying to munch on pieces of pumpkin flesh.

Cosmo's first Christmas. When we put the tree up, Cosmo soon discovered sleeping under it is rather nice. He also likes knocking ornaments off.

Relaxing

Cosmo apparently feels quite safe and secure at our house. Here he is, flat on his back, sleeping. I love how his tail curls up between his legs.

Inside his tunnel toy

Cosmo got this tunnel toy from his grandma. To say that he loves it would be an understatement. He loves to lay inside and peek through the hole in the middle (left side of this picture). The funny part is when he's only halfway in but thinks we can't see his back half. See other picture farther down.

My window!

Cosmo and Mikey both like to lay in the sun and watch the world from the window. Here, he's trying to lay claim to this window so Mikey can't. Poor Mikey.

I hate water, but love the shower.

Cosmo is enthralled by our shower. He's not particularly fond of getting wet, but he loves to sit in the shower and watch the water drops run down the shower door.

Once, we turned the water on but had it pointed away from him when he was in there. He jumped through the spray to see what was happening, stood there for a little bit (getting splashed but not in the direct path of the shower) and then jumped back through it before deciding he was wet enough. Strange cat.

Cozy in the shopping bag.

This picture is a little blurry because Mikey was nudging my arm as I took it, but it shows Cosmo in one of his favorite places... a reusable shopping bag. When I come home from the store, I put the empty bags on the floor there so I remember to put them back in the car. When one is there, Cosmo loves to curl up inside.

Cosmo loves to explore things, particularly things like baskets. When we put the laundry basket on the floor, he will almost always jump in. In this case, I'd put a piece of paper in the recycle bin and when I looked again, Cosmo had jumped in to check it out. Then he sat there. And sat there.

To follow up on one of the above pictures about how Cosmo loves his tunnel toy, here are two pictures. The top one shows what I saw looking from one direction (Cosmo sneakily watching through the hole in the side), the bottom is from the other side. It cracks me up how Cosmo thinks he's all hidden and safe, when he clearly has half of his body NOT in the tunnel.

For Christmas, we got this toy monkey that rolls over and makes noise. Mikey hates it. Cosmo likes to wrestle with it if he's in the right mood. Other times, like here, when it is turned off, he doesn't mind sleeping next to it. So cute!

Cosmo is interesting in that he'll find some spot that he LOVES to lay and that will be his favorite until one day he'll choose another spot. So far, favorite spots have included the camping chair, the big soft chair in our family room (can't blame him for that one), on top of a certain blanket and, most recently, on the foot rest of the couch.

Not only does he like to sleep there, but if he's in a particularly frisky mood, he'll chase his tail which is hilarious to watch.

Cosmo loves to sleep on camping chairs and other such things that remind us of a hammock. His latest find is one of Cody's bouncy chairs. Cody has another one that he prefers to this one, so Cosmo has decided this one is his.
